Wood stoves, pellet stove and gas stoves require some type of floor protection underneath the stove depending on the surface that the stove is being installed on. Floor protection is described as hearth pads, stove boards, ember protection and heat shields. Each stove manufacturer qualifies the necessary size and type of floor protection in the manual provided with the stove. It is the manufacturer recommendations that meets building code.
